I actually went online and referenced the 1500 ton figure. It seems to be correct according to various sites and people like Andy Muller, The Pearl Professor and various other trade magazines.

So if on average a 7.5 mm cultured pearl weighs 3 carats, and if there are about 2268 carats in a pound and 1 tonne weighs 2204 pounds then that means over 3 billion freshwater pearls?

Thanks Giuseppe I had heard that all pearls no matter the size were machine drilled. Do you know where one would get needles for a one mm pearl? Sandy R.

It funny how these dyed freshwater (green pink) pearls that look irregular are called keshi. I think something should be done by the industry. Its like calling cz’s diamonds Mike

I’ve heard a million different defi, they are ntitons. If you look on Ebay, they are calling pink and orange (God knows what they are)pearls keshi. Its rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t know how Ebay lets this false advertisement go on Thanks M.C.
